Healing - transmitting or channelling healing energy, has been found to be very beneficial to animals and pets, and Animal Healing can help with a variety of physical and behavioural conditions. When healing is given to an animal in this way, either as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with traditional medical treatment, it can speed up the recovery process from illness or injury, ease anxiety and trauma, and provide comfort during times of stress or pain. Unlike humans, animals have no expectation or anticipation of a result, and therefore receive and respond to the transmission of energy unconditionally. Animals and pets of all types can receive healing, but when exploring the range of alternative treatments available, certain legal guidelines need to be followed before allowing an animal to receive non conventional treatment. In all cases you are advised to seek a formal diagnosis from a qualified veterinary surgeon, and permission should be sought first from your vet, before any type of healing or alternative therapy is given.   Energy healing, such as Spiritual Healing or Reiki, is recognised by the RCVS* and may be freely given to animals, either by the 'laying on of hands' or as distance healing. However, most other types of complementary therapy, such as acupuncture, homeopathic or herbal remedies, can only legally be administered by a qualified vet. (see below) Manipulative therapies such as osteopathy, are increasingly popular for horses and other large animals, and these treatments are generally regarded by the veterinary profession as ‘physiotherapy’ rather than healing. Some healers specialise in treating animals and pets instead of humans, and they often have natural animal communication skills which can be helpful when dealing with behavioural problems, as well as physical conditions.
