ABOUT AYURVEDA...
AYURVEDA, meaning 'science of life', originated in India
over 5000 years ago.
More
than a type of treatment, it is also a comprehensive health care system,
which aims to bring about physical, mental and spiritual balance to
the person as a whole, preventing illness and disease from developing
in the first place.
Ayurveda is based on the concept of the three 'Doshas', meaning 'force',
or 'fault' in Sanskrit - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It teaches us that
everything is made up of a combination of these forces, and the Doshas
themselves each combine two of the five elements - ether, air, fire,
water and earth, on which all life is based. Most people are a combination
of two or three dosha types, which is reflected in body type and build,
personality and other characteristics.
An Ayurvedic practitioner will make a diagnosis using a range of methods,
which includes physical observation, touch and a detailed questionaire
about your lifestyle and diet. The range of treatment available is
huge, and can include: cleansing and detoxification methods, herbal
preparations, diet, yoga, massage, breathing techniques and meditation.
An ongoing programme of healthy eating, relaxation techniques and
natural remedies are recommended, to help bring the mind and body
into balance, strengthen the immune system and maintain optimum health.
Ayurveda
is suitable for a wide range of ailments and conditions, and as each
person is different, treatments are tailored to your own personal
needs, according to the practitioner's diagnosis.
As Ayurvedic medicine and the philosophy behind it is a highly complex
system, the training is very lengthy, so practitioners are relatively
rare in the UK.

have to be fulfilled before being given a listing on our site, the
fact that a therapist or practitioner's details are on display here
does not imply any personal or professional recommendation by Holistic

listed should be happy to show you evidence of all these things if
you ask them - which we advise you to do at the first appointment
or sooner, for your own peace of mind. We can accept no responsibility
