ABOUT HOMEOPATHY...

Homeopathy, from the Greek words 'homeo' meaning similar and 'pathos' meaning suffering, originated thousands of years ago in Ancient Greece, but the gentle system of homeopathic healing widely used today was developed in Germany in the late 18th century, by the German physician and chemist Samuel Hahnemann.

Homeopathy is based on the principle of treating 'like with like', through a system of specially prepared natural remedies.

Hahnemann discovered that if a person with an illness was given a very minute dose of a substance, which if taken in a larger dose by a healthy person would develop the same illness, the body's own natural defences could be stimulated into healing itself.

Homeopathic remedies are derived from either plant, mineral or animal sources, and are prepared in a series of steps, diluting the original substance to create a potent energy medicine. According to homeopathy, this retains its original healing qualities no matter how many times it is diluted.
The remedies usually take the form of tablets, which are disolved in the mouth, but can also be in powder or liquid form.

Homeopathic treatment is tailored specifically to each individual, aimed at treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms. A Homeopathic practitioner will therefore need to make a detailed assessment of you on your first visit, taking into account how you feel, both physically and emotionally, your lifestyle, habits, energy levels and past medical history. This will enable them to select the best remedy, or remedies, for your particular condition. These remedies may also be changed over subsequent visits, depending on how you respond to the initial treatment.

Homopathy can be used widely for many conditions, both acute and chronic, and is generally regarded as a very safe, non toxic, complementary system of health care, without the risk of side effects or addiction that often accompanies traditional medicines. Homeopaths will normally prescribe for anyone of any age, including babies, children and pregnant women.
