Hypnotherapy is a useful short term therapy that can help to resolve problems originating from the subconscious mind. When carried out by a trained and qualified therapist, it is a safe and beneficial therapy, often bringing about long lasting, or even permanent results. Our conscious mind - the part that we use every day for normal thinking processes, only operates at the surface level. The subconscious mind however, functions at a deeper level, and this is where we keep our memories, habits, fears and all the things that make us automatically respond to the situations we encounter during our lives. Many of the emotional or mental problems we experience, may only be outward symptoms of a deeper underlying cause, triggered by what is stored in our subconscious mind. As we try to deal with the various stressful or traumatic situations we can find ourselves in, we are not usually aware of how these things are affecting us at a deeper level. If we don't take any action, over time these can build up, and eventually start to manifest as outward emotional, mental or even physical symptoms. By using hypnosis, the hypnotherapist is able to easily access and communicate with the deeper levels of the mind, in order to find the root cause of these symptoms, and then help you resolve them. Hypnosis is a hypnotic trance state, which is a pleasant relaxing experience, similar to daydreaming, where you’re neither awake nor asleep, but you're still aware of your surroundings and what is happening. Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a whole range of issues, including fears and phobias, obsessive or compulsive behaviour, addictions such as smoking, over eating or drinking, emotional problems, bed wetting, sleep problems, stress and anxiety, depression, boosting self confidence or performance, and many more. Hypnosis can also be used to control pain, even during operations, childbirth or dental treatment. Therapists use hypnosis within a variety of subject areas, and there are numerous branches of this therapy available. Some practitioners may cover a wide range of issues, whilst others specialise in specific problem areas, such as smoking cessation, weight loss, addictions or regression. Hypnotherapy is rapidly growing in popularity in the UK, and there are many types of Hypnotherapy training available in varying degrees of quality - some are more thorough and professional than others. It is advisable therefore, to make sure you feel safe and confident with your Hypnotherapist’s level of training, qualifications and experience, before starting any therapy with them. Hypnotherapy can be practised as a stand alone therapy, but you’ll find that many practitioners have additional skills, and may offer other talking therapies within their practice, such as Counselling, Psychotherapy, NLP, EFT etc. To Search for a local Hypnotherapist in the North West, please go to our Holistic Therapists’ Directory Listings Our Therapists’ Directory covers these North West areas:  Cumbria, Lancashire, Gtr Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Wirral & North Wales.
