ABOUT NATUROPATHY...
Naturopathy, also known as naturopathic medicine,
is a holistic system of healthcare that aims to restore, maintain,
and promote good health using the healing power of nature.
It is based on the idea that the body can always heal itself if
we give it the right conditions - that means eating a healthy, nutritious
diet, drinking pure water, and getting plenty of sunshine, fresh
air, exercise, rest and relaxation.
The modern form of naturopathy originated from the 19th century
European 'nature cure' practices, but the ideas can be traced back
to Ancient Greece, and are believed to have first been explored
by the philosopher Hippocrates.
Naturopathy is based on several main principles..
Practitioners acknowledge that the body has the power to heal itself
naturally; they look at the connection between the physical, mental,
emotional and biochemical aspects of the individual, believing any
imbalance within these can lead to ill health; they regard each
person as unique, and they believe that illness can be eliminated
by looking at the cause, not just the symptoms.
During a consultation, a naturopathic practitioner will firstly
try and identify the cause of the symptoms... what led to the condition
in the first place. They will usually take a detailed medical history,
asking about your lifestyle, any conventional treatment you are
using, and your general background.
They may use various techniques such as Iridology (looking at the
iris in your eyes), or examining the condition of your tongue and
nails to try and establish your general state of health. They may
also recommend certain tests be carried out, perhaps on blood or
hair samples, if they're needed.
In offering treatment under naturopathic principles, practitioners
generally avoid the use of surgery or orthodox medicine, believing
that pharmaceutical drugs add to any toxicity which may already
be present within the body. Instead, they offer a personally tailored
treatment plan for each patient as an individual, aimed at bringing
the whole person back into a balanced state of health, which may
incorporate a range of complementary therapies as they feel appropriate.
This could include nutritional therapy, fasting, detoxification,
traditional Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, kinesiology,
herbal remedies, relaxation techniques, exercise, herbal remedies
and more. They may also recommend visits to other specialist practitioners
if required.
Naturopaths will treat both acute and chronic conditions, but as
they regard health to be more than just the absence of disease,
they also try to empower each patient with the knowledge to take
responsibility for their own health. So offering advice about healthy
changes in lifestyle or diet is an integral part of the treatment.
Naturopathy can help treat and prevent many conditions in a gentle
and effective way, including bowel problems, candida, menstrual
problems, chronic tiredness, headaches and migraine and many more.

Disclaimer:
The Therapists Directory on this website is designed
primarily to provide a space where holistic health professionals
and healers can advertise their work. Whilst certain general criteria
have to be fulfilled before being given a listing on our site, the
fact that a therapist or practitioner's details are on display here
does not imply any personal or professional recommendation by Holistic
Promotions. We accept the details offered to us by each practitioner
in good faith - that includes relevant qualifications, memberships/registrations
etc. and confirmation that they are insured to practice. Each practitioner
listed should be happy to show you evidence of all these things
if you ask them - which we advise you to do at the first appointment
or sooner, for your own peace of mind. We can accept no responsibility
for the action, behaviour or malpractice of any practitioner listed
on this site.
Information about therapies shown on these pages is for general
interest and guidance only, and is not intended to replace professional
healthcare advice. As this directory is purely an advertising medium
for holistic health practitioners, we do not offer an information
service, and are unable to answer enquiries about specific therapies,
training, etc. If you need further information, please contact the
relevant listed practitioners, or Therapy Associations,
Councils or Regulatory bodies - many of which you will
find listed on our ADDRESSES
& INFO page.
