Disclaimer: Our Holistic Therapists’ Directory is designed to provide advertising space where holistic health professionals and healers can promote their work online. Whilst we try to maintain a good standard of listings on the site, the fact that a therapist or practitioner's details are on display, does not imply any personal or professional recommendation by us (Holistic Promotions). We accept the details offered to us by each practitioner in good faith - that includes their therapy qualifications, memberships/ registrations etc. Each of our listed practitioners should be happy to provide evidence of their stated qualifications & professional memberships, plus relevant insurance cover if required - which we suggest you ask to see at the first appointment or sooner, for your own peace of mind. We are not responsible for any actions, behaviour or claims made by the therapists/ practitioners listed on this site. Information about therapies shown in our Therapists’ Directory is for general interest and guidance only, and is not intended to replace professional healthcare advice. Although a basic guide to each therapy is included for reference, we do not offer a general information service, and are unable to answer inquiries about specific therapies, health conditions, or recommend any types of treatment etc.  If you need further information about any therapies or healing modalities, please contact the relevant listed practitioners, or the therapy specific Associations, Councils or Regulatory bodies - most of which you will find listed on our Useful Contacts page. The aim of Psychotherapy is to help you think and feel differently, to explore and understand the issues in your life that are causing you problems, and to support you in bringing about positive personal change. It is generally more intensive than Counselling - and may involve attending several sessions a week over a period of months, and sometimes years. It can be given on a one-to-one basis, and also to couples, families or groups. Psychotherapy is often used to deal with long standing psychological problems that have built up over a period of time, and although the therapy can sometimes be a painful process, it can also be a liberating experience, as you open up to new creative ways of thinking and behaviour. There are many branches of psychotherapy available, and therapists may specialise in different techniques. These can vary from the 'talking' therapies to more active ways of expression, such as creative arts, drama and music therapy. The various approaches range from humanistic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), to the more analytical types such as psychoanalytical psychotherapy, and some therapists offer an integrated approach, incorporating different methods. You may come across numerous named techniques under the umbrella of 'psychotherapy' - however, they're usually just variations of the few basic types, which have been developed in recent years. For treatment to be successful, psychotherapy requires a relationship built on trust between the client and the therapist. Therefore it's always advisable to make sure your therapist is well qualified and experienced (see Disclaimer below). Psychotherapists are usually registered with at least one of the professional organisations, and should work within a strict code of practice. As one method may be more appropriate for your needs than another, it's a good idea to find out exactly what's available and what each type can help with, before embarking on any course of therapy. For more specific information, please refer to the individual therapists' listings in our Directory, or visit the websites of the Psychotherapy organisations on our Useful Contacts page (see left). You’ll also find a lot of useful information available about the different branches of psychotherapy and the issues it may help with, on the ‘MIND’ Charity website: www.mind.org.uk To Search for a Psychotherapist in the North West, please go to our Holistic Therapists’ Directory Listings Our Therapists’ Directory covers these North West areas:  Cumbria, Lancashire, Gtr Manchester, Cheshire, Merseyside, Wirral & North Wales.
