ABOUT REFLEXOLOGY...
Although
foot massage as a healing aid has been practised
for thousands of years in the East, it only became known in
the West early in the 20th century, and was introduced to the
UK in the 1960s. Today, REFLEXOLOGY is one
of the most popular and widely available complementary therapies.
It is thought that different areas on the feet (or zones), correspond
to different organs or parts of the body, the right foot relating
to the right side of the body and the left foot relating to
the left side of the body. The hands are linked in a similar
way and can also be worked on. Within the body there are a series
of energy channels, or pathways, through which our vital energy
flows, maintaining optimum health or wellbeing. These channels
can easily become blocked as a result of stress, illness or
injury, resulting in imbalances in our system. This makes it
harder for the body to heal itself.
A trained reflexologist will massage the feet, using mainly
the thumbs to gently apply pressure to the different areas,
and will be able to detect any imbalances that may be present
in the body. Sometimes tiny deposits or tender spots are noticed
- these points indicate problem areas within the body and are
then worked on to restore balance and allow the energy to flow
freely once more.
Reflexology is a safe, natural and very relaxing therapy to
receive, improving both circulation and elimination, whilst
encouraging the body to heal itself. It can be very effective
for a wide range of conditions ranging from migraine, sinus
trouble to back or joint pain and digestive disorders. It is
important to only receive treatment from a qualified and registered
practitioner, as extra care is needed when treating certain
medical conditions.
A reflexologist should spend some time talking with you prior
to starting treatment, in order to assess your needs, as each
treatment is tailored to the individual.

The Therapists Directory on this website is
designed primarily to provide a space where holistic health
professionals and healers can advertise their work. Whilst certain
general criteria have to be fulfilled before being given a listing
on our site, the fact that a therapist or practitioner's details
are on display here does not imply any personal or professional
recommendation by Holistic Promotions. We accept the details
offered to us by each practitioner in good faith - that includes
relevant qualifications, memberships/registrations etc. and
confirmation that they are insured to practice. Each practitioner
listed should be happy to show you evidence of all these things
if you ask them - which we advise you to do at the first appointment
or sooner, for your own peace of mind. We can accept no responsibility
for the action, behaviour or malpractice of any practitioner
listed on this site.
Information about therapies shown on these pages is for general
interest and guidance only, and is not intended to replace professional
healthcare advice. As this directory is purely an advertising
medium for holistic health practitioners, we do not offer an
information service, and are unable to answer enquiries about
specific therapies, training, etc. If you need further information,
please contact the relevant listed practitioners, or Therapy
Associations, Councils or Regulatory bodies - many
of which you will find listed on our ADDRESSES
