ABOUT REIKI...
REIKI (pronounced
Ray Key) is a Japanese word meaning 'Universal Life Force Energy'.
This energy or 'ki' as it
is known in Japan, has been recognised in the East for centuries
as being vital to our health and well being. When our Life Force
energy is flowing freely we feel happy, uplifted and healthy.
When our energy is low or becomes blocked, we become more prone
to stress, depression and illness.
The Reiki system of healing was developed by Dr Mikao Usui in
Japan at the end of the 19th century, after many years researching
ancient healing techniques. The traditions of Reiki have been
passed down over the years from teacher (known as a Reiki Master)
to student and have since spread worldwide.
A Reiki session usually lasts about an hour and takes place
either sitting or lying down, fully clothed. The practitioner
will place their hands lightly on the body in various positions.
This allows the 'Ki' energy to be drawn through them to wherever
it is needed in the person being treated. This flow of energy
may be felt as a mild tingling sensation, warmth, coolness,
or maybe nothing at all at the time. There is usually a feeling
of deep relaxation during and after a session, the positive
effects maybe lasting several days.
Reiki treats the person as a whole, activating the body's own
self healing processes and helping to bring balance mentally,
emotionally, and spiritually, as well as relieving physical
symptoms and clearing out toxins from the body. It is a gentle,
popular and non-intrusive therapy, which can be safely given
to children, adults of all ages and even pets. As a complementary
therapy, Reiki can be used alongside conventional medicine or
other natural therapies.
Practitioners will sometimes combine Reiki with other aspects
of healing such as the use of colour or crystals.
Generally, a Reiki practitioner will have been trained and attuned
to Reiki 2nd Degree (Level 2), or will
be a Reiki Master (male or female), who is able to attune others
to practise, as well as give treatments.

The Therapists Directory on this website is
designed primarily to provide a space where holistic health
professionals and healers can advertise their work. Whilst certain
general criteria have to be fulfilled before being given a listing
on our site, the fact that a therapist or practitioner's details
are on display here does not imply any personal or professional
recommendation by Holistic Promotions. We accept the details
offered to us by each practitioner in good faith - that includes
relevant qualifications, memberships/registrations etc. and
confirmation that they are insured to practice. Each practitioner
listed should be happy to show you evidence of all these things
if you ask them - which we advise you to do at the first appointment
or sooner, for your own peace of mind. We can accept no responsibility
for the action, behaviour or malpractice of any practitioner
listed on this site.
Information about therapies shown on these pages is for general
interest and guidance only, and is not intended to replace professional
healthcare advice. As this directory is purely an advertising
medium for holistic health practitioners, we do not offer an
information service, and are unable to answer enquiries about
specific therapies, training, etc. If you need further information,
please contact the relevant listed practitioners, or Therapy
